ParentLink offers HypnoBirthing® classes, as an alternative to traditional childbirth classes for those parents who would like to explore the use of hypnosis in pregnancy and childbirth.
HypnoBirthing® classes are provided by a HypnoBirthing InstituteSM certified practitioner. The courses consist of five classes, totalling 12 hours.
HypnoBirthing® is a unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth education, enhanced by hypnosis techniques, that allows women to use their natural instincts to bring about a safer, easier, more comfortable birthing in a way that most mirrors nature.
HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The concept is not new, but rather a "rebirth" of the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician, who first forwarded the concept of natural birthing in the 1920s. The method teaches you that in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor.
You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony - as they were designed to--when your body is sufficiently relaxed. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birthing.

Self-hypnosis and deep relaxation are very effective birthing techniques. They are acquired skills that need to be learned gradually and practised between sessions. This ensures that you have the time to develop the conditioned responses that make HypnoBirthing® The Mongan Method so successful. There is no short cut, and this why our program is taught in five, 2 ½ hour sessions.
Learning HypnoBirthing over a day or weekend in a compacted form is not as effective in ensuring that parents are able to absorb and remember the various techniques and the comprehensive birth education that they learn in class. The brain and body memory have a limited learning capacity, especially in pregnancy! Allowing time between classes helps parents to better assimilate what they've learned from the class before and to practice together during the week. Then, when they return on the following week, they are able to discuss, correct, and improve their practice experience and any techniques they may not have fully understood.
This class schedule also allows the time to explore your feelings, to relax with your partner, to resolve and release any anxieties that may arise, and to become acquainted with your baby through pre-birth parenting. We like to work with you personally and to follow your progress, so that we can work with you and prepare you to be ready, relaxed, and confident as you approach the birth of your baby. Our classes are kept small to provide you the comfortable environment to ask questions and provide personal attention.
